Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Have a solid background on the scope & definition of ASME B31.3, process piping design, construction & mechanical integrity
  • Understand metallic pipe and fitting selection including its system failure, bases for selection and method requirements
  • Identify the strengths of materials including its requirements and be able to identify the bases for design stresses
  • Determine the components of pressure design and be able to know the concepts of weld joint strength factor and design pressure & temperature
  • Basic knowledge of valve selection
  • Introduce flexibility & flexibility analysis and able to explain the general considerations for the layout and support of pipes ‚ Learn the various types and designs of expansion joints and be able to describe their components and use
  • Become familiar with the design of flanged joints and be able to describe its features & functions
  • Understand the fabrication and installation methods of piping system and be able to list the requirements and guidelines needed in the inspection, examination and esting of pipes
  • Know the design, fabrication, installation, inspection, examination and testing methods for
  • piping systems, category M Fluid service, high pressure piping & high purity piping systems
  • Piping / Mechanical static engineers, Piping designers, Pipe stress engineers, Senior Draftsmen working for EPC companies & Design Offices.
  • Maintenance, QA/QC personnel, Piping Inspectors working for Process plants, including Oil & Gas, Chemical, Petrochemical, Cryogenic, Water & Food Processing, harmaceutical, Utility plants.

  1. INTRODUCTION
    History of piping and vessel Codes, Scope and definitions. Schematic process of Oil and Gas facilities
  2. PIPING ENGINEERING AND DESIGN DRAFTING
    Piping Engineering : Pipe sizing, Pressure drop for Incompressible fluid, Materials, Pressure and temperature rating establishment, Pipe fittings, Piping class, Pipe supports, Piping flexibility.
    Mechanical-Piping Design Drafting : Design drafting system
  3. PIPING SYSTEM COMPONENT
    Piping System Component : Pipe wall thickness under internal, external pressures and under high internal pressure, Pipe bend / Elbow, Pipe branches, Flanges, Blinds, Bolts and Gaskets, Non-Standard blind flanges, Blanks and Restriction orifice, Bolts and Gaskets, Manual valves, Relief valves, Piping specialty items and Piping strainer.
  4. PIPE SUPPORTS
    Pipe Support Design, Type of Support Loads, Primary Loads : Secondary Loads, Primary and Secondary Support
    Common Type of Pipe Supports : Cantilever pipe supports with end and intermediate point load, Point Load between two supports, L type pipe supports with end point load, T type pipe supports with end point load (Refresh only)
    Special Pipe Supports : Trunnion support, Spring supports.
  5. PIPING CLASS
    Piping Class and Its Piping Components Review : Pressure – Temperature flange rating, Design limits, Pipe size and Material, Fittings, Flanges, Blinds, Spacers, Valves, Gaskets, Bolt Torquing, Branch connections, Special treatment, Piping class identifications
    Piping Component Review : Piping components (Fittings), Weldneck flange stress analysis, Bolts area, Blind flange thickness.
  6. STRESS ANALYSIS
    Principal Axis and Stress, Failure theories, Pipe Stress : Maximum principal stress failure theory, maximum shear stress failure theory, Allowable stress, Displacement stress range
  7. PIPING FLEXIBILITY AND VIBRATION
    Piping Flexibility : L shape between two anchors, Expansion Loop 2D, Expansion Loop 3D.
    Vibration : Type of vibration in piping system, Force at bend.
  8. TEMPORARY REPAIR – LEAK SEALING
    Temporary Repair – Clamping : Insert Ring Clamp, Enclosure Clamp, Temporary Repair – Composite Wrapping : Composite Wrapping Design, Temporary Repair – Patch Weld : Design of Fillet Welded Patches.
  9. HOT TAPPING
    Hot Tapping Design and procedures, Gathering process and site data, Design activity and Hot Tapping design.
  10. THERMAL FATIGUE (PIPING)
    Thermal Stress and Thermal Shock : Level-1 analysis, Level-2 analysis, Thermal stress amplitude, and Life spans expectation.
  11. THERMAL INSULATION (PIPING)
    Type of thermal insulations, Insulation materials, Insulation layer structure, Insulation thickness, Economic insulation thickness, Economic thickness of cylindrical insulation .
  12. BURIED PIPE
    Material selection, Corrosion protection, Design method (Flexible design, Pipe laying Conditions, Stress on pipe wall and Ovality
